Two determined Averitt associates were named winners of a recent health and fitness challenge similar to the popular NBC program “The Biggest Loser.” During the 90-day competition, managed by D1 Knoxville, Averitt associates competed amongst themselves for bragging rights and cash prizes. Participants were required to follow daily workout routines, keep detailed journals of their eating habits and compete in several unique physical and dietary challenges. Laura Beth Mayberry was declared the Total Inches Lost winner with a total loss of 19.25 inches and Amanda Craigo was named the Total Percent Body Weight Loss winner, losing 18.4 pounds. Mayberry and Craigo, both members of Averitt’s corporate office team, were recognized for their weight-loss efforts at an awards ceremony held at Averitt’s Fitness Center. Congratulations to all the Averitt employees who participated in this challenge, shedding a total of 244.6 pounds and 187.8 inches!

Hillis, Hoomanawanui, Rivers, McNeill, Moore, Bennett and Mason Shine in NFL
Lots of D1 athletes are playing well in the NFL right now. Check out some highlights from this week.
-Browns RB Peyton Hillis' (D1 Combine) 131 rushing yards pushed him to 905 on the season. Hillis also led the Browns with 63 receiving yards on six catches, keeping him in first on the team with 46 receptions for 414 yards.
-Ravens WR Derrick Mason (D1 Nashville) notched eight catches and a big touchdown.
-Rams TE Michael Hoomanawanui (D1 Combine) scored an impressive 36-yard catch-and-run for his third touchdown of the year.
-Bears WR Earl Bennett (D1 Birmingham) caught four passes for 56 yards with two touchdowns in Sunday's win over the Eagles
-Saints WR Lance Moore (D1 Columbus) hauled in five passes for 39 yards and a touchdown in the Saints' Week 12 win over the Cowboys
-Chargers QB Philip Rivers (D1 Huntsville) completed 19-of-23 passes for 185 yards in a huge Week 12 win over the Colts. Chargers LT Marcus McNeill (D1 Combine) helped contain the Colts pass rush in the big victory.

D1 Boot Camp starts with laughs, ends with a real workout
From the Savannah Morning News, "I read in the newspaper that D1 has opened a training facility in Savannah, and I immediately went to its website. Their slogan, "The Place for THE ATHLETE," was very scary to me, but I contacted D1 anyway. Robert Creel, facility coordinator/head strength & speed coach for D1, explained that every person who walks through the door is trained and treated like an elite athlete. Blake Jenkins Hard Work at D1 Knoxville Pays Off
D1 Knoxville athlete Blake Jenkins and his Powell teammates were crowned Senior Midget League Champions this weekend as they beat CBFO 6-0! Blake’s team finished the season 10-1 and he dominated his opponents on the field despite being one of only two 7th graders that are starters! Congratulations Blake on a great season!

NFL Free Agent Ramzee Robinson Begins Training at D1 Huntsville
Former Alabama corner back and current NFL free agent Ramzee Robinson has begun training at D1 Huntsville. Robinson, who had a successful career at the University of Alabama, has spent four years in the NFL with the Lions, Eagles, Browns, and Redskins and is continuing to work hard as a free agent while training at D1. Steve Genetski to Offer QB and Receiver Training at D1
Renowned QB coach Steve Genetski has partnered with D1 Sports and will be conducting year round training sessions for quarterbacks and receivers at D1 Birmingham each Sunday from 1-3 pm. Genetski has been mentoring top athletes in the Birmingham area for over twenty years. Genetski mentored D1 Birmingham co-owner Brodie Croyle during his maturation as an athlete.
Genetski has personally mentored over forty quarterbacks and receivers who have earned college scholarships. Twenty-three of his quarterbacks have been chosen for All-State honors and eighteen of his quarterbacks have received D1 scholarships. Chattanooga Newspaper features article on D1 Coach Chris Camacho
Last Week the Chattanooga Times Free Press featured an article on D1 Coach Chris Camacho who is looking to break into the professional MMA scene after going 4-0 as an amateur.
