STACK Blogs about Tim Tebow and Iron Sharpens Iron
Here is a clip: On the night before he drove the Broncos to their fourth straight win, an overtime victory over the San Diego Chargers this past Sunday, Tebow was called upon by Denver head coach John Fox to address his teammates.
There’s no questioning Tebow’s oratorical prowess, but how is a second-year player who’s been doubted since the day he was drafted supposed to galvanize veteran teammates like Willis McGahee, Brian Dawkins and team leader Champ Bailey?
By proclaiming a verse from Proverbs 27:17, which reads: “Iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another."
As many D1 athletes know, "Iron Sharpens Iron" is something that is posted around every D1 facility. It is a great verse and truth to live by! CLICK HERE to read the full blog.

D1 Bham's Doc Connor Blogs on Vibram 5 Finger Silliness
Where to begin with this silliness? If you haven’t seen them here is a pic (to be fair, this example of the many versions looks more like a water sock others are a bit more sturdy) . . .
In my opinion the five fingers is really the visionary design (along with well-noted publications referenced below) that have given rise to the current minimalist shoe fad (many variations and manufacturers have since caught on as well). The idea here is that the shoe simply gives a minimal amount of protective padding to your God given natural foot. Beautiful. Simple. Elegant. It’s God’s design after all, right?

The Biggest Loser's Joe Mitchell Continues Training at D1
After being knocked off recently, Season 12 Biggest Loser contestant Joe Mitchell has continued his training at D1 Knoxville, working to become the at-home weigh-in winner at the finale.
Mitchell, a 46-year-old home health therapist from Knoxville, started the show at 348 lbs. Mitchell says his weight gain started at 26 when he stopped going to the gym and began eating too much fast food. Mitchell and his wife Danene have a 10-year-old daughter and 2-year-old son. As an older parent, he feels it is his responsibility to learn to lead a healthier life. In addition, Mitchell acknowledges that his weight loss will give him more credibility with his patients.
Mitchell is not the first Biggest Loser contestant to train at a D1 facility for the finale weigh-in; David Griffin and Phil Hawk from Season 4, Phil and Amy Parham from Season 6, Tara Costa from Season 7 and Season 9 runner-up Ashley Johnston all reached their weight loss goals with the assistance of D1.

College Recruiting Tip: Tooting Your Own Horn
This is Jared Montz and you are reading the November 2011 free College Recruiting e-Newsletter by http://www.CollegeRecruitingWebsite.com. This article will also appear on STACK.com. I regularly write college recruiting articles for STACK.com.
One of our clients asked me this “tooting your horn question” once. He felt like trying to get recruited was like tooting his own horn to coaches.
Recruiting is like finding a job, if no one knows you are looking, you can’t hired.
Trying to get recruited may make you feel like you are tooting your own horn or bragging about your abilities but you are not. Trying to get recruited is like what adults have to do when they are looking for a new job. They write resumes, create websites, email and call employers and try to convince those employers why they would be a valuable asset to that employer’s company.
An adult finding a job is like a talented high school athlete trying to get recruited to play college sports. It’s not bragging if you can back it up. You don’t want to be cocky of course but you need to build a relationship with college coaches and convince them on and off the field why you have what it takes to play for them.
In a NextLevelBallplayer.com article writer David Franco asked Arizona State Coach Ken Knutson, “What advice would you give a high school player looking to play at ASU?” Coach Knutson said, “Send letters and emails. That’s how coaches find out about stuff.”
Next time you think you don’t want to write emails to college coaches because you feel like you are bragging or being cocky think about what Coach Knutson says.
Being proactive and reaching out to coaches to let them know the type of player and person you are is not tooting your own horn… it’s how you get recruited!
Now go get recruited!
This month’s motivational quote is by Kyle Chandler. He says, “Opportunity does not knock, it presents itself when you beat down the door.”
Have a great November and remember if you Believe in it® and back that up with hard work, anything in life is possible!
