D1 Sports Training announces the addition of Cowboys tight end Jason Witten, Bengals receiver Jordan Shipley and Colts long snapper Justin Snow as co-owners to the new D1 Sports Training facility in Abilene. On June 4th, 2012, D1 will open its first facility in Texas. The D1 facility, which is located in the Munton Sports Complex, features a 15,000+ square-foot training space and an additional 10,000 square feet for D1 Sports Medicine partner Texas Sport & Spine. D1 Abilene will have an indoor turf field and first-class weight room combined with a state-of-the-art sports medicine and therapy clinic geared toward athletes and athletic type injuries run by Texas Sport & Spine.
Witten and Shipley both have past connections to D1. Following his standout career at the University of Texas, Shipley trained at D1 Nashville four months prior to the 2010 NFL Draft. Witten has trained at D1 and played at the University of Tennessee with D1 CEO Will Bartholomew. Snow is an Abilene native and lives there in the offseason. In addition to Witten, Shipley and Snow, the Abilene D1 Training facility will be co-owned by a group of local investors and sports enthusiasts led by Dr. Dan Munton of Texas Sport & Spine.
Congrats to D1 Greenville staff, coaches and members who competed in the Goodwill MudRun this past weekend. D1 had five teams compete in the 3.5 mile course with two teams placing in the top 5 out of 310 teams in the coed division. Check out pictures below from the race! D1 is proud to present the first annual Josh Byers Memorial Day 5k. The race will take place on May 28, 2012 in Franklin, TN. The event is named in honor of Captain Josh Byers, a soldier who gave his life defending his country in 2003. The race will benefit Not Alone-a foundation that provides programs, resources and services to warriors and families impacted by combat stress and PTSD. Congratulations to Chris Balcom-Miller, D1 Athlete and pitcher for the Portland Sea Dogs, the Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. Following the 2011 season, Balcom-Miller was voted by Baseball America as having the best control in the Red Sox system and is already off to a great start in 2012! San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers will be a co-owner of the Raleigh, North Carolina facilty. Set to open this summer, D1 Raleigh is also co-owned by former UNC- Chapel Hill linebacker David Thornton and Triangle Orthopaedics. Rivers also co-owns D1 Huntsville. D1 co-owners and NFL players Brodie Croyle and DeMeco Ryans will host an exclusive training experience at the D1 Birmingham location. The event, being held on May 19th, will allow members to train alongside the pros. The event will feature two sessions from 10am-11am and 11am-noon. D1 athlete Pat Shirley completed the notorious Spartan Run in Charlotte, North Carolina this past weekend. Pat
began training at D1 in October of 2010 and hasn’t looked back since. He is
the type of person that loves a new challenge and has already signed up for the
Spartan Run next year. Pat credits his D1 training for the strength and endurance required to complete the event.
D1 Pittsburgh is hosting FREE barefoot boot camps today (Noon, 4:30 PM, and 7 PM) to raise awareness for kids that go without shoes! Leave your shoes at home and come in for a great workout for a great cause! You can buy a t-shirt too! Very cool.
Former Tennessee and NY Jets QB Erik Ainge and D1 Knoxville coaches will be holding a camp on Saturday, April 21. Erik will be teaching quarterback skills, including a proper warm-up he learned from Peyton Manning, footwork, quick release, ball handling, qb mechanics and mental... x's and o's. Erik will also address the participants about his story and the pressures of being a quarterback in high school, college and the NFL.
Cost: $50 per athlete, $40 per D1 athlete

J.P. Arencibia worked hard this offseason at D1. It didn't take long for him to show it! He hit a three-run home run in the 16th inning on Opening Day against the Cleveland Indians to propel Toronto to the win. CLICK HERE to see video from the game. D1 Little Rock co-owner and middleweight boxer Jermain Taylor heads back to the ring to continue his comback. The former undisputed middleweight champion will face the currently unbeaten Caleb Truax on April 20th. D1 Knoxville athlete Scott Stallings will be golfing at Augusta National this weekend in his first Masters Tournament.
