Mike oversees day-to-day operations at D1's Columbus facility and is responsible for implementing its training programs. He also works directly with NFL players A.J. Hawk, Mike Vrabel and Bobby Carpenter, as well as NHL star Jody Shelley. Mike attended Ohio State University, where he was captain of the baseball team. He played in the MLB with the Minnesota Twins and later founded Peak Athletic Development.

Jared Sullinger Named Big Ten Player of the Week
D1 Columbus athlete Jared Sullinger is really making a name for himself. He was named the Big Ten Player of the Week and the conference's Freshman of the Week. The Player of the Week honor was Sullinger's second this season, while he was awarded Freshman of the Week for the fourth time. Sullinger scored 40 points in Ohio States' win over IUPUI on Thursday, marking the first time since 1995 that a Big Ten player has scored 40 or more points in a game and the first time since 1944 that a Big Ten freshman has accomplished the feat. Looks like his offseason work at D1 has payed off.

The Scenic City Youth Football League recently wrapped up their season with the league Super Bowl winners being crowned at Finley Stadium. D1 Chattanooga was on site during this football filled Saturday with some fun drills for the athletes to participate in when they weren't on the field playing for a championship. Demeco Ryans, former Alabama player and a co-owner of D1 Birmingham, lost an Iron Bowl bet this past weekend to former Auburn player and Houston Texans RB, Ben Tate. Auburn came back from a 24-0 deficit in the first half to defeat Alabama 28-27. It was both the largest comeback in the history of Auburn football and the largest comeback ever allowed in Alabama football history. Tough loss for both Bama and Ryans!

Two Winners Named in the Averitt Tri-Life Challenge managed by D1 Knoxville
Two determined Averitt associates were named winners of a recent health and fitness challenge similar to the popular NBC program “The Biggest Loser.” During the 90-day competition, managed by D1 Knoxville, Averitt associates competed amongst themselves for bragging rights and cash prizes. Participants were required to follow daily workout routines, keep detailed journals of their eating habits and compete in several unique physical and dietary challenges. Laura Beth Mayberry was declared the Total Inches Lost winner with a total loss of 19.25 inches and Amanda Craigo was named the Total Percent Body Weight Loss winner, losing 18.4 pounds. Mayberry and Craigo, both members of Averitt’s corporate office team, were recognized for their weight-loss efforts at an awards ceremony held at Averitt’s Fitness Center. Congratulations to all the Averitt employees who participated in this challenge, shedding a total of 244.6 pounds and 187.8 inches!Monday, November 29, 2010

-Browns RB Peyton Hillis' (D1 Combine) 131 rushing yards pushed him to 905 on the season. Hillis also led the Browns with 63 receiving yards on six catches, keeping him in first on the team with 46 receptions for 414 yards.
-Ravens WR Derrick Mason (D1 Nashville) notched eight catches and a big touchdown.
-Rams TE Michael Hoomanawanui (D1 Combine) scored an impressive 36-yard catch-and-run for his third touchdown of the year.
-Bears WR Earl Bennett (D1 Birmingham) caught four passes for 56 yards with two touchdowns in Sunday's win over the Eagles
-Saints WR Lance Moore (D1 Columbus) hauled in five passes for 39 yards and a touchdown in the Saints' Week 12 win over the Cowboys
-Chargers QB Philip Rivers (D1 Huntsville) completed 19-of-23 passes for 185 yards in a huge Week 12 win over the Colts. Chargers LT Marcus McNeill (D1 Combine) helped contain the Colts pass rush in the big victory.

Blake Jenkins Hard Work at D1 Knoxville Pays Off
D1 Knoxville athlete Blake Jenkins and his Powell teammates were crowned Senior Midget League Champions this weekend as they beat CBFO 6-0! Blake’s team finished the season 10-1 and he dominated his opponents on the field despite being one of only two 7th graders that are starters! Congratulations Blake on a great season!

Former Alabama corner back and current NFL free agent Ramzee Robinson has begun training at D1 Huntsville. Robinson, who had a successful career at the University of Alabama, has spent four years in the NFL with the Lions, Eagles, Browns, and Redskins and is continuing to work hard as a free agent while training at D1. MTV's "World of Jenks" Travels to D1
Steve Genetski to Offer QB and Receiver Training at D1

Renowned QB coach Steve Genetski has partnered with D1 Sports and will be conducting year round training sessions for quarterbacks and receivers at D1 Birmingham each Sunday from 1-3 pm. Genetski has been mentoring top athletes in the Birmingham area for over twenty years. Genetski mentored D1 Birmingham co-owner Brodie Croyle during his maturation as an athlete.
Genetski has personally mentored over forty quarterbacks and receivers who have earned college scholarships. Twenty-three of his quarterbacks have been chosen for All-State honors and eighteen of his quarterbacks have received D1 scholarships. Last Week the Chattanooga Times Free Press featured an article on D1 Coach Chris Camacho who is looking to break into the professional MMA scene after going 4-0 as an amateur. Several members of D1 Little Rock found ways to get involved in the recent Susan G. Komen Race for the cure besides just racing. Recruiter Stacey Suitor-McGill began training with a group of women who were participating and Facility Coordinator Anthony attended AT&T to discuss the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure/3 Miles of Men Event, also encouraging them to come check out D1! Congratulations and thank you to all those who participated and supported this amazing event!

3 D1 Locations to host College Recruiting Night in partnership with CollegeRecruitingWebsite.com

D1 Sports Training will be hosting a College Recruiting Night presented by CollegeRecruitingWebsite.com at our Huntsville, Chattanooga and Birmingham locations. All athletes in all sports and their parents are invited to this FREE event, but this is especially important for athletes in 9th-12th grade who wish to play at the next level. Below are the dates.
D1 Huntsville – Monday, November 8, 2010 from 7-8pm
D1 Chattanooga – Tuesday, November 9, 2010 from 7-8pm
D1 Birmingham – Thursday, November 11, 2010 from 7-8pm
The event will cover NCAA rules, how to promote and network yourself to college coaches, what to say and what not to say in an email to a college coach, how to stay organized using contact sheets, what you can do to stand out on the field and in the classroom and ultimately how to leverage yourself come signing day.

Chattanooga Power 94 radio DJ undergoes transformation at D1
Donna L, a radio DJ for Power 94 WJTT, has been training and teaching the power hour class at D1 Chattanooga for the past year. To date she has lost 87lbs and has had a huge influence on over 100 women that have experienced her class. Everyone at D1 is proud of Donna and what she has accomplished. Keep up the great work!
