D1 Little Rock athlete, Jackson Marchant won his first national wrestling tournament last week. Jackson, 13, has been training with D1 for the past six months to increase his strength. First, he began working with coach Michael Butler and now with working with coach Ben Faires. Michael was able to to get Jackson in top shape so Ben can now “fine tune” him. Ben can be very creative with the workouts! This keeps Jackson interested and motivated!
Jackson started wrestling when he was 9 years old. Greg Hatcher first introduced him to the sport and Pat Smith has become his wrestling coach. The Midwest Army National Tournament is a summer tournament held each year in Bloomington, IL. This year Jackson weighed in at 93lbs. There were 12 wrestlers in his bracket. After winning three matches, he was wrestling in the finals for first place. Three overtimes later, he became the Champion!
A combination of D1’s Strength training and Pat Smith’s wrestling techniques are what has allowed Jackson to become the athlete he is today.
