Gyms Like D1 Make Fitness Fun for Kids

At D1 Sports Training in Franklin, Brandon Goebbert instructs the casual child participant and the serious athlete. "I get the kids who are so gung ho about it they want to learn everything," said Goebbert, who leads a fitness group for 7- to 11-year-olds. "And I get parents who say their kids won't do anything but sit on the couch and play video games, and they need someone other than a parent to tell them they need exercise." There are three levels of kids classes at D1. Each gets more sports-centric, but with the younger kids the focus is more on fitness fundamentals and less on athletic achievement.
