News and Notes from D1 Athletes in the NFL

Carolina Panthers tackle Geoff Schwartz, who spent all of last season on the Panthers' practice squad, made his NFL debut… DeAngelo Williams had 14 carries for 37 yards and a touchdown plus four catches for 42 yards in Sunday's loss… First-round pick Michael Oher fared well in his first NFL start at right offensive tackle for the Ravens… Ravens FB Le'Ron McClain rushed for 19 yards and a touchdown on six carries, and also caught three balls for 23 yards in Week 1… Cleveland rookie Kaluka Maiava had one tackle, the Browns' first of the regular season… Cowboys tight end Jason Witten led the receiving corps with five catches for 71 yards… Peyton Hillis ran once for two yards and caught a six-yard pass in the Broncos' Week 1 win over Cincinnati… Texans DT Frank Okam recorded four tackles and a sack… Chiefs QB Brodie Croyle completed 16 of 24 passes for 177 yards and two touchdowns in the Chiefs' 38-24 Week 1 loss to the Ravens… Minnesota Vikings signed OL Kory Lichtensteiger to the 53-man roster… Titans DT’s Tony Brown and Jason Jones each recorded sacks on Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger
